Kurinuki
Kurinuki means hollow out. These vases are created from a solid block of clay, hollowed out and the exterior carved to show both the texture of the clay body and the flow of glaze over it. Their weight gives them a gravity, the surface texture, a fluidity and dynamism at odds with its solidity.
